For people who live in and around Balaramapuram, there is only one name that comes to mind when they think of Mutton Dishes – S.P.R. Started back in 1983, the mutton dishes from this place has always been the benchmark by which the restaurants nearby were assessed. Open from 5 am to 1 am, this restaurant is located near the Junction at Balaramapuram. Mutton Perattu,Mutton Liver, Mutton Njalli, Mutton Curry etc are some of their must-try dishes.
Named after the owner’s father, S. P.R or S. P Ramachandran Hotel is one of those places that might surprise you if you didn’t know better. This unassuming, rustic looking restaurant at Balaramapuram, is famous for their relishing mutton dishes. But if you are not a mutton lover, they have a lot of other dishes to satisfy your other food cravings too.
When you are travelling on Balaramapuram – Kanayakumari road, this restaurant is located on the right, next to the Balaramapuram Junction itself. They have a good parking area, which none of the other restaurants in the area has is a major reason for their popularity among the travellers who pass by. They were first located on Kattakkada road and later shifted here when they became famous.
Mutton dishes prepared with mutton slaughtered in-house to assure quality is one of the reasons why their mutton dishes are so popular. They have wide varieties of mutton dishes available to please any mutton lover. Mutton Brain Roast, Brain Fry, Mutton Nelli, Mutton Curry, Mutton Liver Fry, Mutton Perattu... goes on the list of items to try from this place. Hot red colour, courtesy of Kashmiri Chilli, which most of their dishes have, makes the dishes look appetizing without burning your mouth.
They have the main dining area which has that old but well-maintained look to it. They have mirrors placed all over the walls which give the place a much wider and open feel. They have this separate dining space outside for their family customers who wish to have more privacy and space.
Evening hours will be the best time to try out this place if you are looking forward to trying out their mutton dishes. Afternoon lunch hours are best to try out their meals and fish fry items along with their Mutton Biriyani dish.
