Anyone who passes by this small toddy shop is bound to stop by or atleast give the place a second glance for sure. This toddy shop, known by the name ‘Pravinkoodu’ stand on raised pillars in a paddy field and definitely has some charm.
This small toddy shop that can barely accommodate 30 people at a time swells with customers during their lunch hours, not just with the scenic beauty, but also due to the exquisite taste of Kerala Cuisine Shappu food they serve. With very limited space, they prepare all the dishes for this place at the owners house itself. They just heat the dish before serving it to their customers. Owner Jayan is also the head chef at this place for the last twenty years and during his tenure, the dishes from this place got more and more takers in Thrissur.
PravinkooduShappu is located on Mapranam – Nandhikkara Road, between Konthipulam Bridge and Nedumbadu Junction on right side, at a paddy field, when you are traveling from Mapranam area. This place itself has a profound effect on the feel of this small toddy shop with its serene atmosphere, paddy fields and river, all combined to give you a surreal experience. On weekends, lot of youngsters and family customers visit this place to experience the superb dishes they offer, while basking in the natural beauty of this place.
Almost all their dishes are very less spicy for a toddy shop and can be enjoyed by anyone. Kada mutta Roast, Tharavu roast, Kallummakaya, Njandu, Muyal are some of their frequently demanded dishes. Weekends are the best time to visit this place as theirwill be more choices of dishes for you to choose from. All the dishes are dry from repeated heating of each dish before they serve it to their customers.
Without fan or any electronic equipment and being very congested, this place still remains relatively cool from the constant breeze of fresh air from the paddy field. Their small dining area is furnished with wooden benches and tables in their single dining area. Even though they have no parking area of their own, there is more than enough space where you can safely park your vehicles.
