If you are somewhere near to Kochi International airport and looking for some good Kerala style meals and ‘nadan’ side dishes, Oottupura Restaurant is a good option to consider. This house turned into restaurant is located at Chethikodu, within two km from the Airport. They are closed on Sundays and opens from 11:30 am to 5 pm on all other days. Meals, Chemeen, Kakka, Kozhuva, Koonthal etc are some of the best dishes to try from this restaurant.
Oottupura Restaurant stays true to its claim of serving homely food both with its tasty food as well as its ambience. This place is a house converted into a restaurant with different rooms shifted into dining areas. This small house feel and the dishes in their menu seem very compatible in giving you more of a feeling of being a guest than a customer.
Oottupura is located within two kilometres of the Cochin International Airport at Chethikode. When you are travelling from airport to Kaladi on M.C Road, this restaurant is on the left side after Atlas Airport apartments. Although they don’t have much parking area of their own, you can park infront of the restaurant by the road side.
This restaurant is open only for lunch during afternoon hours and the Kerala special meals served in traditional style on Vazha ila is their main item. With just one side dish the meals from this restaurant is just an excuse to gulp up their mouth watering seafood items. Most of the dishes are served in small portions with a maximum price of Rs 60, you can try more than one item if you are in the mood.
The main reason for their unique taste is because they only buy locally available fishes and seafood fresh from the market. The way they serve their dishes itself is quite an enticing experience where the waiters bring all their specials in large trays and you can pick the once that caught your fancy from the collection. Koonthal, Kozhuva, Kakka, Chemeen, Mathi Mulakittathu, Neymeen Paal Curry, Meen Thengha Peera are some of their famous seafood preparations.
They have ambiance of the restaurant decorated with the pictures of famous writers in Malayalam along with their most famous books. The behaviour of the staff is also quite good as most of them are really experienced in the field and will explain your queries patiently.
