Dhanya restaurant near Passport office at Petta road, Kaithamukku is known for most basic dish of all – Kanji (porridge) and Payar. This 55 year old restaurant is open from 6 am to 10 pm everyday, but they serve Kanji and payaru for dinner only. If you are looking for something simple yet so fulfilling for dinner, this is definitely a dish to try.
For everybody who had Kanji and payaru once, there is no explanation needed as to how simple a dish this is. This very common household dish is not that easily available in restaurants usually. But Hotel Dhanya did a wonderful job with this dish and served it as it is with its natural combinations.
Hotel by itself is pretty old and ordinary looking which won’t invite a second glance from anyone who passes by. The whole restaurant is furnished with wooden tables and chairs that look as old as the building itself and has been worn out with years of use. The whole interior has been painted light blue to give the whole place a bluish hue.
Served with payar, pappadam, chammandhi and pickle, gives the hot kanji served here its awesome taste. Payaru mixed with the special chammandhi served at this place tastes just heavenly with the Kanji, which will make you slurp down this dish. This dish is available only from 6 pm to 9 pm and is so cheap that you can keep on having it till your stomach burst out.
Beef fry from this place will be an unusual add on dish you can try with the kanji they serve. The finely cooked soft flesh, this dry dish mixed with some onion tasted great. This restaurant is bit away from all the rush of the city and has plenty of area to park on the road sides as the roads are not that well traversed one from evening time. Although they serve all the breakfast dishes and meals like any other hotel, Kanji and payaru is what makes this otherwise very ordinary hotel noticed among the foodies.
