Dakshin Restaurant offers a lot more to you, than the usual south Indian dishes available at other restaurants. This restaurant opposite National Hospital, on Mavoor Road, Calicut has north Indian, south Indian and Chinese cuisines and will be open from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. Dinner and lunch hours, are both suitable to pay a vist to this place and Kumpo paneer, stuffed capsicum masala, north Indian thali, dum aloo kashmiri, dakshin special dosa are some of the dishes to try.
Mavoor road is dotted with so many fine restaurants, that it can always get a bit confusing to choose from. But that being said, when it comes to good vegetarian restaurants, suddenly, your options become very limited. That’s the reason why Dakshi – The Veg restaurant becomes an important spot in the food map of this city.
This twenty year old restaurant, which doesn’t have any other branches, is a favorite spot of vegetarians in the city, who would love to try some tasty and different vegetarian dishes. They have ground floor dining area set with a prepaid token system, clearly meant for their local customers and to handle lunch time rush. Their first floor is divided into a common dining area and an air conditioned family dining space.
Dakshin has a classy ambience and a multi cuisine menu set for their patrons, which includes south Indian, north Indian and Chinese cuisines and they also serve jain food. With capsicum, onion, tomato, carrot, ghee and butter mixed and stuffed inside dosa, later served with two types of chutney, sambar etc, Dakshin special Masala dosa is much more than the usual masala dosas. If you are a fan of paneer, then kumpo paneer, a starter dish from their north Indian cuisine is a must try one. Balls of paneer are coated with special masala and fried in oil to prepare this tasty dish.
With tomato soup served as a starter, North Indian Thali, is an exquisite main course dish served at this place, that has enough items to stuff any ordinary person full, at a very reasonable price. Four types of side curries, salad, pappad, two tandoori rotties, sweet along with rice, make for a complete lunch experience. Dum aloo Kashmiri is another north Indian dish, prepared by stuffing paneer and malai inside Potato cover, poured over with cashew and fruit paste gravy and garnished using sliced pineapple, apple, cherry, coriander, mint etc.
Cool blue mood lighting has been given to their ac dining area and the rest of their dining area, looks and furnished like any other normal vegetarian restaurant. Small parking area and non acceptance of credit cards are some minor setbacks at this otherwise superb restaurant.
